Virtue is its own award
I just received an e-mail.
It was from the IIA and Enterprise Ireland Net Visionary Awards 2007. Apparently I have been nominated for Best Blogger! I don’t know who nominated me [I’m much too modest to nominate myself], but thank you, whoever you are.
I see the description for Best Blogger is
The person who receives this award will have achieved substantial breakthroughs in using Blogging as a successful content medium. He or she will have shown strategic vision in using blogging as part of the marketing mix.
Nominations should be for an individual who has used Blogging as a business or communication tool and embodied best practice in the medium. In addition, they will have demonstrated both strategic vision capability and impressive tactical abilities in achieving success. There should be evidence of long-term sustainability in the use of Blogging.
I don’t really think that describes me, or my blog, so I don’t think I have much of a chance. But Twenty won last year, so maybe there’s hope? I didn’t book a place anyway as the tickets are €250 and my pension won’t stretch to that.
I will confess that I nominated myself for the Golden Spider Awards. I did that with my tongue firmly in my cheek. I think that they might be put off if they visit my blog and find it plastered with Golden Crab Awards. In fact, they’ll probably sue.
I have won a Golden Crab, but seeing as I started that, it doesn’t really count [for me]. I also won a Schmoozer Award, which sits proudly on my toilet cistern.
Apart from that, the only award I got was for surviving 25 years in RTE. I’m proud of that one because not many people survive that long there. It’s a very heavy bronze yoke, and is great as a door stop.
I did get nominated for the Irish Blog Awards earlier this year, but I don’t think they were quite ready for me then.
There is another award I won, but again, I’m too modest to mention that.
Well done!
So when are you starting the book?
Plenty of time for that.
I have to learn to spel yet.
Is that a Day Time Emmy award for best soap oprea?
Did they not insist on a black woolly hat for the ceremony? You wouldn’t get into the Masons wearing a blue hat!
I’m not sure what it is, but it’s great for propping up the broken coffee table.
Ian – They said black tie. They never said anything about the hat.
I’m dead proud of my Schmoozing award so I am.
So am I, Robert.
P.S. Stop schmoozing…..
Congratulations, Grandad!
I wish you were going to the awards ceremony.
I think Sandy would look splendid in Black Tie.
And, if you drove up to the venue on your new “Bike” , you would be the hit of the evening.
Maybe Sandy could drive and you could arrive in the box.
The little yellow box on the front will be perfect for carrying your award(s) home.
Thanks, Nancy.
I haven’t worn a tie in years. I don’t need to with the beard being so long now.
Sandy says she’d be only too happy to drive me there on the trike. She doesn’t drink much so she’ll be safe to drive me home after.
Other than saying see you next tuesday all the time not sure of 20’s strategic vision but there you go.
Grandad,
See you next week. I am leaving for a short holiday in Florida.
Grandad,
I wore a tie in April.
I thought you might take a table at the awards ceremony. I got an invitation to a dinner recently offering me the opportunity to take a table for ten at €2500. I’d want most of the furniture in the room for that price.
Flirty – You mean a blog is supposed to have a ‘strategic vision’? Is that where I’m going wrong?
Nancy – Have a good trip and keep clear of the Toy Boys.
Ian – Yup. This one is €2,500 a table as well. Seeing as you saved on the last one, you can afford to sponsor my table this time around?
Congratulations …. while the legitamcy of some of those awards are suspect, you’re not going around waving it in people’s faces. (Or are you??)
Anyway, my dad got a big heavy statue of Cuchulainn when he retired. It’s has a crow on his shoulder, and it’s a great paperweight.
Hi Daz.
I agree about some of the awards, but the NetVisionary Award would be a nice one. And of course I’m bragging about my nomination. I’ve damn all else to brag about.
When I left RTE I got a statue too. She’s out there by my pond peeing in the water. She is a great memento – just standing there endlessly recycling the same old stuff!!!
