You have to laugh
There has been a bit of bother at the Russian Embassy here.
The other day, a bloke reversed his truck into the gates of the embassy and made a bit of a hames of them. Or, as Waterford Whispers headlined – “Irish Truck Rear-Ended By Russian Embassy Gates“.
Anyhows, the embassy is situated on Orwell Road. This is a name fairly well known for Dubliners as one of those places where if you ask for the price of a house then you can’t afford it. It is up there close to appearing on a Monopoly board behind Shrewsbury and Aylesbury Roads.
I see this morning that the local council have voted to change the name of the road. They want to rename it “Independent Ukraine Road“!
Whatever about the Russian Embassy, I very much doubt the other residents will go with that one even in the fervour of Ukrainian support that has gripped the country.
It’s worth a chuckle though.
Reminds me of another hilarious headline recently seen – “BLM leader Sasha Johnson head-butts mostly peaceful bullet”.
Hah! Good one.
Orwell seems a very good name for the road. Didn’t George write in 1948 about world events, with a distopian view of the USSR? Perhaps he titled it 30+ years too early, but I’m sure he never expected it to be used as a manual, rather than a warning.
