It looks like Ireland is going into Nanny State overdrive again.

Suddenly articles are popping up in the meeja like a rash of measles, and they seem to be running a nice coordinated attack on alcohol and obesity.

We have a joint attack where the headlines scream "Alcohol forgotten factor in obesity crisis, says consultant"  Wow!  A double whammy!  Let's hit the Alcos and the Porkies at the same time!  What fun!

Then we have warning labels on the old drink.  Sadly the Bovine Herd thinks this is a great idea, completely overlooking the inevitability of "plain packaging" for all alcoholic beverages.  After all, warning labels will utterly fail to have any impact so the "next logical step" is standardised bottles covered in lurid pictures of diseased livers and crashed cars.

Then we have an incredibly smug looking journalist who reckons that obesity "costs us a billion a year" and that "fat shaming might be healthy"? 

What kind of society are we becoming where we are encouraged to sneer and jeer at our fellow man?  Naturally it started with smoking where people are actively encouraged to sneer and jeer at smokers telling them they are addicts, filthy, smelly and a burden on society.  Now they want the same to be applied to the overweight?  Presumably people who enjoy a tipple will be next in the firing line? 

This world they are encouraging us all to join is frankly a disgusting place.  People are neatly packaged into handy minorities that are to be despised and ridiculed.  What the sanctimonious few don't seem to realise is that sooner or later they will find themselves categorised into some minority where they too will become the object of ridicule, and all because they eat meat, drive a car or some other infringement of the doctrine of the Church of Health.

I really do mourn the days of tolerance and respect.  They were the days were we all got along together and quietly accepted other people's foibles and differences.  Now it is the norm to encourage disrespect for our neighbour.  We must publicly revile them because they are not the same as us.  They are disgusting and a burden on society

Sadly the cohesive is rapidly becoming the fractured.

May those who encourage it roast in hell.
