Not the Age of Aquarius
I have just deleted a big scribble what I had wrote.
I was pondering about the state of the planet, but everywhere I looked there was some kind of madness that didn’t exist twenty years ago. My scribble just became as insane as as the insanity I was scribbling about.
The truth is that I just really don’t understand the world any more. There are these waves of political correctness which suddenly make speech or literature a minefield of walking on eggshells in case somebody somewhere is offended. There are wars breaking out all of a sudden. People are suddenly trying to change sex which is a very strange new phenomenon. America is dividing itself down the middle politically. There is this new yoke called “The Far Right” which nobody can define yet it is apparently behind a lot of the world’s problems. People are talking about free speech and censorship almost in the same sentence, And don’t start me on the subject of health where we are coerced by so called experts into living a “healthy lifestyle”.
Twenty tears ago there was none of this, or at least very little. What has changed? Where did all this madness come from? Has the change in millennium from a 19 to a 20 somehow upset people subliminally?
Something has happened.
But I don’t know what……..
What happened is that the lunatics are now running the asylum.
Sadly, what was once an amusing expression has now become reality. I fear for the future….
“The Far Right” which nobody can define yet it is apparently behind a lot of the world’s problems.”
While I don’t consider myself Far Right, I am most assuredly to the right of center. To my way of thinking Far Right seems to be anyone not in complete agreement with something the left has to offer.
I find that I appear to be slipping farther and farther ‘Right’ And yet if I do one of those ‘where are you politically?’ things I come out slightly left of center… Well, it’s better to be far-right than totally wrong.
I can never work out this “left/right” thing. Originally I thought left meant Socialism – i.e. Labour – while right meant conservative – i.e. well, Conservative. I would class myself as Liberal/Libertarian and have no idea which way I’m steering.
Future historians, given the benefit of distance and hindsight, may well argue that the cultural changes at the start of the millennium arose from the attitudes of the Enlightenment (reason and scepticism of received wisdom) being forsaken and replace by a New Romanticism (a rejection of the precepts of order, calm, harmony, balance, idealization, and rationality).
So… since astrology is not scientific and not rational the ‘Age of Aquarius’ might be a handy hook for New Romanticism.
It just seems to be the Age of Woke….
The Age of Narcissus?
