A Bit of a Do
Herself has a birthday next week.
I know this because she has been dropping very subtle hints for the last few months. You know the kind of thing? “What are you getting me for my birthday which is only X days away”, where X can be anything up to 364.
It’s not what they call a “significant” birthday. Far be it from me to divulge a woman’s age [being the gentleman that I am] but it has a one and a seven in it, and she ain’t 17 [I wish!].Â
We had a bit of a bash last year when Daughter and I threw a surprise party. It was at Herself’s insistence so I’m still trying to work out where the surprise bit fitted in. I gave her the cat as a present [have you ever tried wrapping a cat? Not easy] as she had been nagging me for years to get one. She actually got the cat on-line a couple of weeks earlier so it wasn’t quite the surprise that she might have wanted. I think the cat was more surprised at being wrapped.
I still remember that party even to this day, mainly because I still keep finding bits of confetti that Daughter threw over Herself when she blew out the conflagration of candles on the cake. That fucking stuff gets everywhere. Thanks Daughter!
Herself loves shopping on-line. It is a passion that has developed into an obsession so the house is full to the brim of stuff that has been delivered [or I have had to collect] to the point where it is difficult to move around. It’s mainly clothing which has now filled several racks and a couple of wardrobes. The scenario usually follows a pattern – she sees a shirt she loves that will go sooo well with some jumper or other, and then a couple of weeks later it’s a new blouse that’s to go with the new skirt, and by then she has forgotten the original jumper and has to buy a new one to go with the outfit. Normally I let all this pass. I do grumble a lot but that’s only because I don’t want her to think she’s getting away scot free. But occasionally I draw the line at some article saying it is far too expensive and she then plays the Birthday Card. “It can be my birthday present” she declares even though it might be in February. Sadly I don’t get away with that though, as come August she has forgotten all about the numerous “birthday presents” she has bought during the year and I have to get her something else.
So what to get her this year?
Well, I would like a new laptop. This one is fine but I would like to have one in case of emergencies, so maybe I will buy myself Herself one. She has to go into hospital tomorrow for some procedure or other which I am informed will take around four hours. The hospital isn’t too far from a major computer shop so I may spend a happy hour or two browsing around there. You never know – I might possibly probably find some little gizmo that takes my fancy.
If it’s expensive, it can always be her little birthday present for me next year?
I have to say to say that your thinking is still right on the money. And a Happy Birthday to herself from me.
And I’ll probably have to edit this comment as your “TinyMCE” buttons are no longer present (probably a Gutenberg thing?) so I added a bit of markup. At least I added a bit of markup that I hope I remembered correctly.
Hey, the markup even worked! Of course now the buttons show up after I posted the first comment.
I am having major problems with that Gutenberg yoke. That’s one of the things I was trying to sort yesterday without any success.
Grandad,
That reminded me of a brief conversation I had with a fellow browser in a big tech store a goodly while ago which ended with the fellow saying;
“My wife’s been in hospital for a few days and is being discharged later today, all hale and hearty, and I thought I’d give her a surprise for her home coming so, as a special treat, I’m buying her something I want.”
“have you ever tried wrapping a cat? Not easy”
It’s dead easy. I used to wrap my cat in newspaper from time to time. It was no harder than wrapping fish and chips. It was a game we played. And once wrapped in newspaper his reaction times were several orders of magnitude faster than when unwrapped. If touched, he could spin inside the newspaper and get a claw to my finger before I could pull it away, however fast I tried to be. And when he got bored with the game, he’d tear a hole in the newspaper with a single motion of a paw.
Happy Birthday to Herself! Â
Enjoy her gift to you!
