The week that is in it
It has been an interesting week.
It is less than four months since I started this site, and I never realised how many people read it.
When I am writing a post, I feel like I’m writing a little private essay to myself, that noone else is going to see. I mean, for God’s sake, who would want to read the rambles and ravings of an old maniac?
But then came the Blog awards, and people actually voted my muses into four categories! I’m still a bit stunned by that. And since then, people have been pouring in, probably eyeing up the opposition. Yiz are all welcome.
Another thing that happened was that a site in America called Plime.com [which I’d never heard of] picked up on my little ramble about my cactus. They went mad over it for some reason. Half my visitors this week have come from there. Hundreds of ’em! So, just for them, here’s another photo……
This is for my American friends
And a final note for Valentine’s Day. If any of you [or me] are in doubt that this is the day for romance I have conclusive proof.
For the second year in succession, our pond in the garden has filled up overnight with frogspawn. February the 14th each year!
So there was a lot of romance in our pond in the early hours of the morning!!
That’s emotional blackmail, showing your grandaughter like that …. shame on you.
And using that poor cactus … cacti have rights too …
Nah, don’t worry, I voted for you in one or two of the catergories. And just remember, who’d want to listen to the rantings and ravings of an 18-year-old college student either?
“That’s emotional blackmail”
No it’s not. She’s a lovely kid and deserves a place on the web.
.
Thanks for the vote[s]. All are welcome!
.
I want to listen to the rantings and ravings of an 18-year-old college student 😉
That little lady is a real beauty!
Must get her looks from her self’s side of the family!
The cactus looks more like I imagine you, very hairy!
Hey there. Well done on the nomination.
Well done on the nomination Grandad. Looks like there’s gonna be a good contest this year.
Do you think that maybe your frogs could give me a few tips on getting jiggy with it?

@Grannymar – She takes after my side of the family! And now that you mention it, the cactus does bear a resemblance….
.
Thanks Bock and Voice. I think it was an error.
.
@Voice – all you have to do is sit in my pond on the night of February 13th. You’ll be guaranteed some action.
Best of luck GD. I know you will do really well. Am delighted that everyone is discovering your site. Have begged and bribed friends and family to vote for you so fingers crossed.
Thanks Flirty! 🙂
.
My ambition is to get as far as a finalist so I can get to meet some of the faces behind the names.
.
And they are going to discover that I’m a pimply 15 year old with a vivid imagination 😉
Far to vivid!
Greetings Ancient One…
I’ve just discovered you. You sent a comment to some site I was reading and I was attracted by your name.
There are not enought old men in public life.
But I have an ulterior motive: what age are you?
Perhaps you declare it in your profile but I’m lazy and haven’t looked there yet.
The reason I ask is that I’ve been hoping I’d get the Award for “The Oldest Blogger on the Block”. But your name suggests I might miss out. And in this category, if you miss out this year, you miss out next year too.
You seem to have fans, which is a good recommendation. I’ll read on and on, until the lights go out in Cork.
If you’d prefer to keep your age private, I’ll understand and won’t hold that against you.
Greetings to you Omaniblog.
.
I am hurt to the quick. “Ancient One”? Yes, I am old but I try to convince myself that I am a thirty year old in the wrong body – and you smash me over the head with a dose of reality.
.
And to add insult to injury you say you were reading something I wrote and was attracted by my name? Not my writing? Do people read Alexander Pope because they feel they might receive a plenary indulgence?
.
Yes. You probably are âThe Oldest Blogger on the Blockâ?. I can say that because I do not live in Cork. Just as I too am probably âThe Oldest Blogger on my Blockâ?. Unless, of course you are referring to Ireland as a whole, and I think the nation would not be too happy to be called a “block”?
.
As for my age? Here’s a clue – I remember travelling on the trams in Dublin. I don’t refer to the Howth tram, but rather the trams that plied the streets before the advent of the omnibus.
