Going willingly Green
It has been an “interesting” day so far.
First of all I got a phone call. A very nice chap wanted to come and look at The Manor.
Last year I heard about a scheme where all houses older than a certain age were to be assessed for energy rating. It’s all part of this Green madness but in this case I wasn’t going to complain.as I qualify for a free job. The idea is they calculate the rating and then see about improving it. Apparently they go the whole hog – fixing wall/roof insulation, fixing the heating system and installing double glazing wherever necessary. I applied for it. Why not when it’s free?
Anyhows Yer Man duly turned up and spent about an hour here. He measured everything that could be measured and took a few photographs. I commented on how snap-happy he was with the camera and he reckons that he takes around a hundred photos per house. He has gone now. He informed me that the next step is for some builder or someone to come out and assess The Manor for improvements. That may involve a wait of up to six months. Things tend to move slowly in Ireland.
Once the builder has assessed the house they allocate a contractor to actually do all the modifications. That may involve another six month wait. All going well, I can expect the job to finish around this tie next year?
The house is quiet again. Now I’m waiting for the groceries to be delivered but in the middle of Yer Man’s visit I got a call from the grocery mob to say their driver was sick and they had no idea when my groceries would be delivered. Hopefully within six months?
I’m also waiting for a quote that I was promised would be emailed last Friday but is now due today. It’s for a little job I want done. I expect it will put a massive dent in the Grandkids’ inheritance. The way things are going, I’m just going to leave them a debt. That’s their problem. Sorry, Grandkids!
Today is turning out to be Waiting Monday.
As with all things Green, some body, the pollies, the contractor, who just happens to be the son in law of a pollie, the greenies, but not the public taxpayer, is skimming money.
Just be glad that you do not have a herd of cows that they want to slaughter. Hmm? I wonder who gets all the really cheap, tender meat. Not the plebs, you can eat crickets.
One thing amused me — we were having a chat after his survey and the one thing he was impressed with was our high efficiency oil burner.
To be honest, the only thing I want them to do is to improve the insulation in Herself’s room. The rest of the Manor doesn’t bother me.
It’s what we used to call a “hurry up and wait” situation.
