The art of communication
I placed an online order last week.
It was for a replacement box for the dead one I mentioned last Saturday.
Ordering stuff on line can be a bit of a hit and miss experience. Sometimes the stuff is delivered the next day but more often than not it can take days or weeks. I think the record is the time I ordered my watch. That took two or thee months to arrive.
Anyhows, I placed the order and shortly after I got a message to say that my item was packed and was being handed over to DPD for delivery. That was fine. I could expect delivery within the week.
On Monday I got an excited email saying my parcel was ON IT’S WAY. Exciting stuff?
Yesterday I got a mail announcing that the parcel was to be delivered the same day. I could barely contain myself.
I waited. And waited. Towards evening I began to wonder at the efficiency of their notification system. I checked the first email and found they gave a tracking number.
I have ordered a ton of stuff of the Interwebs in the past and some time back I discovered a neat little website – Universal Parcel Tracker – which seems to work with any courier or delivery system. I put in the tracking number and up came the information –
28 Sep 2021 07:39 Delivered , received by BLUE BIN
From DPD UK
What the fuck? What the hell is Blue Bin? Had they got the address wrong? I checked the listing again.
28 Sep 2021 07:39 Delivered Consignee
From DPD Ireland
So now it had been delivered by DPD UK and DPD Ireland. They must be serious. But at 07:39?
I went and checked outside the hall door? Nothing. I checked behind the porch and the window ledges. Nothing I checked the ground inside the front gate. Nothing.
Then I saw it. It was on top of my Brown Bin [not the Green Bin or the Black Bin] and partially hidden by the hedge. It was very neatly camouflaged and I never would of spotted it if I hadn’t been looking. It had been pissing rain all day so the parcel was damp, to put it very mildly. Luckily the drive still worked.
So DPD get 10 out of 10 for communictions. And a fucking fat zero for actual delivery.
And I assume their delivery bloke is colour blind….
On a different note, I got a letter today so I’m still on the subject of communications.
Last June I got a letter from the hospital Cardiac Unit telling me that my appointment for the 10/02/2022 had been cancelled. Fair enough. I thought no more about it.
Today’s letter was informing me that my appointment for the 10/02/2022 has been cancelled. Again. I take it they don’t want me?
However they were delighted to inform me that a new appointment has been set – for 10/02/2022.
I think I’ll write and cancel.
Bit worried when I tried the Universal Parcel Tracker link to find that it was all in Russian – but managed to find to button to change the languages. No British English option but the American English is undestandable.
Ah! I didn’t realise it defaulted to Russian. For the sake of simplicity – the correct address: https://parcelsapp.com/en/
On your different note:
It sounds very much my letters from the VA regarding appointments. Not all the time but often enough to make mention. Makes me wonder if your hospital and my VA medical center are somehow related?
