  1. Seems fair to me that if you use EC money to build or renovate a building the least you can do if fly the sponsors flag which was part of the agreement.

Gehorcht euren Meistern Sie Plebs, oder es werden Probleme

  2. Wow, that’s waaay too far with the swastika GD. From the article you linked: “Each had breached rules that require display of EU symbols in return for grant money” – sounds fair to me.

  3. I dunno.  There is something very uneasy about the whole thing.  Was the flag part of the condition of the grant?  If so, why?  To actually impose fines seems to be more than a little heavy handed.

As for the flag, I hope it is going a bit too far.  Only the future can tell.

  4. Your (other) readers are actually disagreeing with you GD ?  A first and a thirst for everything I guess. I reckon that to be fined for not flying a flag is as scary as fuck not withstanding any whyfores.

  5. I want to know if the fuckwits, that agree with the fines, actually have the slightest, teensiest, weensiest notion  from where that “funding” materialised.
Did it come from Brasso?, Rumpy Pumpy?, or dya fink it came from somewhere a tad closer to home.
    Clue, Tax-payer.

  6. America is well known for its short attention span, but I’d think you all as a whole would have known better.  It’s only been 66 years since the end of WWII!  No one gives you something without expecting something in return, especially an economic union!  We’re going down the same road in the states.  We’ll most likely be penalised severely, if we don’t display “Uncle O’Bama Wants You’ posters in our shops!  🙂

On another note, it’s 7/7/11.  Where’s the impending disaster that is supposed to destroy America?  🙂

  7. TT – Anything to make your day.  At least it proves that I don’t censor my comments as one or two have suggested in the past?

Patrick – By the same token it ALWAYS pisses me off to see a sign saying that something is “funded by the government”.  No it fucking isn’t!  It’s funded be ME and every other Joe Soap in this blighted isle.

JD – A few of us have seen this coming from waaay back.  I started getting very damned worried when they stopped calling it the EEC.

Slab – I think I have seen a few of those notes already.  Time to move to my hide-out further up the mountains?

  8. Reminds me of this:

    Read Aloud For Best Effect!!!
The European Union commissioners have announced that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty’s Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for short).

In the first year, “s” will be used instead of the soft “c.” Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard “c” will be replaced with “k”. Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik emthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced by “f”. This will make words like fotograf” 20 persent shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent “e”s in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go.

By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing “th” by “z” and “w” by ” v”.

During ze fifz year, ze unesesary “o” kan be dropd from vords kontaining “ou”, and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer.

Ze drem vil finali kum tru.

Maybe not so far fetched after all!!

  9. @Patrick Harris
By calling me a fuckwit in discussion you automatically relieve me from any reason to answer you seriously and, actually, to treat you seriously.

    @Mossy
    Brilliant! 🙂

  10. jedrzej

Anyone who uses the word “weensiest” can not be taken seriously anyway.

  11. I’m with the dissidents on this one. If they make a deal to take money in return for flying a flag then either do it, or don’t do the deal in the first place. You wouldn’t catch the EU reneging on a deal, would you? Oh, er… Right, yes. I’ll get me coat then.
