On knowing where I am
Today is the first day that has a touch of reality about it.
I actually know what day of the week it is – Tuesday [thought doubtless someone will correct me if I’m wrong]. This the first time in a couple of weeks when I had that comforting feeling of knowing where I am chronologically speaking.
I don’t know what it is about Christmas and the New Year that fucks with my head. For the entire period I hadn’t a clue what day of the week it was and had to keep looking at my watch. Each and every day felt like it was a different day from the actual one. I got that Friday Feeling [whatever that is] on several occasions and each time I was wrong. Monday appeared several times and Hump Day [Wednesday – that was what they called it in RTE] happened regularly.
Today though, It started with a blissful certainty of a Tuesday and sure enough, the Health Visitor arrived to tend to Herself and to confirm the day that’s in it.
So I’m happy now. No more bank holidays or feast days to interrupt the natural flow. Christmas is over with the only reminder being the tree, the lights and the cards cluttering up the place. The Christmas Cake is still only half consumed but that’s no problem. I’ll address that little anomaly slice by slice in the coming days The unpredictable has become the predictable. The uncertainty has become the certain. My needle is back in the right groove.
Happy days.
I guess it’s ‘Hump Day’ because it marks the hump in the middle of the week. Some, of course, may consider it to mark other regular ‘humps’. Have a happy Wednesday – they will.
That was the logic all right. There used to be a few ribald comments every Wednesday!
In Scotland, it was the second New Year Bank Holiday. Why do they need four days for New Year?
Happy Easter GD
