Election fever
There are two elections on the horizon.
Of course there is the American one. I confess I am looking forward to this one as the outcome is bound to be interesting. The outcome is really a foregone conclusion – whichever side wins there are going to be calls of foul, Russian interference, vote rigging and whatever else they can throw in. Trump has already declared himself the winner on the grounds that if Harris gets the vote, that it will all have been rigged by the Deep State.
Here in little old Ireland we have an election looming too. This promises to be about as exciting as watching raindrops on a window. Again the result is a foregone conclusion.
There re three main parties here. The Greens and Labour have been almost wiped out as they were never forgiven for propping up coalitions in the past, leaving just Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Sinn Féin. The latter were leading the polls but after a series of scandals [no doubt orchestrated by FF/FG] have dropped way down. This means that either FF or FG will come out on top. Whichever tops the table is irrelevant as the winner will immediately form a coalition with the other and we’ll end up precisely where we are now. The only question is who they will choose to finalise the coalitions numbers to form a gubmint. Please God, not the Greens.
I saw an interesting item recently. It was on the pensions and allowances to be paid to retired politicians here. They reckon this to be in the region of €4 million in the first year alone. Who wouldn’t fancy an annual pension of €70,000 a year for doing nothing?
It’s no wonder they crawl over each others’ backs to get into gubmint?

Q: When did you last hold an election?
A: Just before bleakfast.
Across the water in the UK, we had one of those election-things about three months ago. Following the utterly dire performance of the consequent new government and its very early exposure for personal corruption at many levels, it’s quickly become an object lesson in ‘be careful what you wish for’.
Voters in both America and Ireland would do well to note that message when making their marks.
Voters never learn. That should be obvious?
My ballot has already been dropped off at the courthouse. Trump is my choice. The cost of living was much friendlier to my wallet under Trump. As far as I can see Harris has one thing going for her, that woman sure can giggle. This ok when running for Senior class president in high school; but not so much for POTUS.
I actually felt a little sorry for Harris. She was somewhat throuwn in at the deep end when Sleepy Joe backed out almost at the last minute. The only things going for her were her gender and colour which aren’t exactly outstanding qualifications?
