It may be my imagination but there seems to be a concerted international effort to piss me off.

First there are the phone calls.  They always come with the number marked as "withheld" so as soon as I see that I gear up for a fight.  Usually though all I get is a dial tone when I answer which is damned irritating.  Yesterday I got a "withheld" and it was some female trying to get me to support some damned charity.  She got roasted and flayed alive.  This morning I got a "withheld" and there was dead silence on the line and then a recorded female voice cheerfully said "goodbye" and hung up.  I would ignore all "withhelds" only that a couple of friends have that on their phones and it might be them calling, but it rarely is.

Then there seems to be an increase in spam onto this site.  Normally that never bothers me as there are all sorts of filters to trap the unwary but lately they seem to be getting past, and stuck in moderation.  One annoying little twat posted about ten different inane comments on various posts.  He had obviously read the posts as the comments reflected the subject but they were still inane.  He was just trying to promote his fucking foreign beer site or something.  Anyway, he's now dead.

Then I have seen an enormous increase in spam to my emails.  The Nigerians seems to have given me up as a bad job which is something, but now I am inundated with spam for some fucking Russian pharmaceutical place.  Viagra spam seems to be on the up too, if you'll pardon the pun?

Then there's that shower of idiots in Avaaz.  I'd bin them but they're usually worth a snigger or two.  It's fun seeing what their latest cause célèbre is, whether its saving the Orang Utans, the blue whale, female circumcision or whatever.  Usually though they whinge on and on and on [and on] about Warble Gloaming and how we only have days / hours / minutes left to save the world.

I knew things had reached crisis point today though.

I got spammed by the Daily Mail.

I don't know how they got one of my addresses but they did, and it's definitely from them advertising some fucking upcoming feature.

I really have hit rock bottom.

How much lower can you get than the Daily Mail?

  1. Sam is a pain. I use "Mac Mail" and set up the filter thingy several years ago. As such, my few e-mails a day come through the main mailbox and all the 'red ones' go into another. I began to get over 200 a day and wondered what was causing it. Apparently, if you open even one of those fuckers, you'll get fifty more as a result. They are fishing to see which addresses are live and can detect you opening it. Then, they feel you on their database to hundreds of real outlets to be spammed to death.

     

    Don't open the fucking things in the first place is my advice. Select and delete unless you know the sender.

    • The golden rule is to never open them and even more important – NEVER REPLY.  Never click on Unsubscribe.  Never write to tell 'em to fuck off.  Just bin 'em.

      I deleted over three thousand last night.  😈

        Glad the inane foreign beer plugger is dead. Kind of relieved too since I thought you were referring to me at first.

        • When I say Foreign, I mean Foreign.  The site was in Dutch or German or something.  I didn't hang around long enough to see.
