Will someone please tell me what this Reality Television is all about?

As far as I can make out, and correct me if I’m wrong, they get a gang of extremely low IQ people with personalities [such as they exist] that are bound to clash and they lock them in a house.

And before anyone says that they have seen high IQ people in there – I would say that no intelligent person would want to subject themselves to that.

We are then meant to sit back and watch them live their lives.

Why? What is the fascination? Why not just put a few flies and a couple of spiders in a jamjar and watch them?

The organisers of these programmes know what they are at. You can just see their minds working.

“OK now, we have a mild mannered person here from India. Let’s stick in someone from the National Front. That should get the sparks flying”

The organisers then throw their hands up in horror when the blood starts to flow. But it is exactly what they wanted. Front page news. Everyone tuning in to see what the fuss is about. They’ve hit the headlines.

What is the attraction of this? I couldn’t give a flying f*ck about them. Why should I care if some bimbo is in tears because someone looked sideways at her? Why should I care that someone is being asked to eat live slugs marinated in pig poo? They knew what they were letting themselves in for when they signed up.

There are obviously enough sad people out there who want to submit themselves to public humiliation, so why not stick them all in a disused hangar in the middle of nowhere. We can tell them that there are cameras watching them [but of course there aren’t], and just leave them there to fight it out. They’ll be happy, and the rest of us can get on with our lives.

Or why not at least make it interesting?

I would suggest that we take these contestants and ship them to an African wildlife park.

Loads of cameras, but no one in the background with guns. This is reality after all.

The bimbos and airheads get their moment of glory in the sun, and the animals get fed.

I could watch that.
