The miracle that is Second Hand Smoke — 29 Comments

  1. It does seem to share a lot of properties with The Holy Ghost. I mean the proper Jesuit one you learnt about as an altar boy back around the time of The Battle Of The Boyle, NOT the modern care beary fluffy one passing out blessings left right and centre. The Holy Ghost, being able to smite whole cities, seek out and kill the Firstborn, cause The Plagues Of Egypt and beyond all the science of man to detect.

    Job 4:9
By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
    Job 41:20
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

    • There are dozens of the damned things.  A couple at the bottom of the piece?  Stick the cursor over the plus one and you get 280 more!

There again I don't know if they work as I never tried 'em!  😉

    • Thanks!  I'm flattered.

"I got shat upon by the blogger concerned and warned about copyright suits!"  Heh!  Certainly wasn't me.  As far as I know anyone can re-post something so long as they provide attribution and a link.  There may be a case for not reproducing the article in full but that's all.

  2. Oh – I saw them! I'll try them next time I particularly like a post – which is mostly. 😀

  3. I tried sharing on Google+ and it said

    Proxy access not allowed !

    headrambles.com

    Proxy access not allowed !

    Just saying…..

    • Strange?  I just tried that button [for the first time] and it seemed to work.  Maybe I'm the only person allowed to use it?  Heh!

I actually had a peek at the buttons on your site and apparently you use a thing called Sharedaddy.  I went to download it onto here but it gave grave warnings that the plugin is years out of date!

If anyone Out There can recommend a plugin [that preferably isn't 4 years out of date] I would be delighted to hear…….. ?

      • I use Sharedaddy? I didn't know that!  I wonder if it works? Never tried it myself! 😀

        • You use WordPress.com and they supplied the plugin that you use [or rather, they made it available].  I host my own site which gives me the advantage of using any plugin I like, but the disadvantage of having to find the best one!

And yes.  As far as I can tell, your plugin works.  If i used it now though I would just be promoting a link to my own site which could be construed as a drop egotistical? !!

  4. “The strongest reason to avoid passive cigarette smoke is to change societal behavior: to not live in a society where smoking is a norm,” said Dr. Jyoti Patel of Northwestern University School of Medicine.

Now they found that there is no cancer risk with SHS but this knucklehead has to go and say this, showing their true agenda.

    • So they're going back to George Godber.  On finding that smokers weren't that willing to quit he said that pressure should be placed on them by non-smokers, so there had to be a perceived threat to non-smokers.  What better way to "denormalise" smokers than to turn them into a threat to everyone else?

  5. 1

OSHA also took on the passive smoking fraud and this is what came of it:

Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence: Third Edition

     This sorta says it all

These limits generally are based on assessments of health risk and calculations of concentrations that are associated with what the regulators believe to be negligibly small risks. The calculations are made after first identifying the total dose of a chemical that is safe (poses a negligible risk) and then determining the concentration of that chemical in the medium of concern that should not be exceeded if exposed individuals (typically those at the high end of media contact) are not to incur a dose greater than the safe one.

So OSHA standards are what is the guideline for what is acceptable ''SAFE LEVELS''

    OSHA SAFE LEVELS

All this is in a small sealed room 9×20 and must occur in ONE HOUR.

     For Benzo[a]pyrene, 222,000 cigarettes.

     "For Acetone, 118,000 cigarettes.

"Toluene would require 50,000 packs of simultaneously smoldering cigarettes.

Acetaldehyde or Hydrazine, more than 14,000 smokers would need to light up.

     "For Hydroquinone, "only" 1250 cigarettes.

For arsenic 2 million 500,000 smokers at one time.

The same number of cigarettes required for the other so called chemicals in shs/ets will have the same outcomes.

So, OSHA finally makes a statement on shs/ets :

Field studies of environmental tobacco smoke indicate that under normal conditions, the components in tobacco smoke are diluted below existing Permissible Exposure Levels (PELS.) as referenced in the Air Contaminant Standard (29 CFR 1910.1000)…It would be very rare to find a workplace with so much smoking that any individual PEL would be exceeded." -Letter From Greg Watchman, Acting Sec'y, OSHA.

Why are their any smoking bans at all they have absolutely no validity to the courts or to science!

    • It would be impossible to reach those levels even in a packed pub at closing time on a Saturday.  In fact you'd have to pack so many people into said pub that they would all be crushed to death anyway.

Yet they still talk of the dangers to others in the open air?  It baffles me how people can actually believe such tripe.

    • That has been known to happen.  The sister-in-law triggered one of ours once, but then it was about ten inches over her head at the time.  The effect was dramatic and really worth watching.  Pity I didn't have my camera with me at the time.

  6. Excellent job, Grandad, describing the “properties” of ambient tobacco smoke [according to antismokers].

SHS could well be described as a “magic mist” that incredibly defies the laws of physics and chemistry, and even sensibility.

To your list can be added that the smoke from any number of smokers – even ONE, can utterly ruin the dining experience of antismokers, indoors or outdoors. As antismokers are sitting at a dining table the smoke from even one cigarette, no matter how initially distant from the antismoker, is capable of identifying antismokers and will congregate [by some currently unknown process] specifically around their heads. No matter how much smoke there is initially, the smoke undergoes a multiplication process around antismokers’ heads to form a thick cloud that renders antismokers effectively blind……so thick is this cloud of smoke that antismokers find it impossible to even see the plate of food 12 inches in front of them. But that’s not the worst of it. Although not able too see their food, the antismoker can at least feel around with their hands and scoop up some rearranged bits and pieces to their mouths. And it’s here that the greatest shock comes. Blinded by the smoke, tears rolling uncontrollably from their swollen, squinting eyes, food finally making it into their mouths, antismokers discover that the smoke has also paralyzed all of their taste buds…. all of them. They chew and munch and swallow but with no enjoyment whatsoever.

Mind you, I’ve never seen this happening [and it's never been caught on video] but antismokers are adamant that it’s commonplace.

    • That is another effect that I did overlook [sorry!] – that SHS can provoke a violent reaction, usually within a radius of around 120 feet, before the smoke has actually traveled any distance from the cigarette.  This reaction takes the form of violent coughing [and more muscular twitches in the forearm] and a complete shutdown of the tastebuds.

  7. This is an excellent essay. Every member of the Oireachtas should read it (especially the Joint Committee on Health and Children).  Smoking bans aren't about health; they're about social control. Tobacco control's propaganda and manipulation need to be exposed for the lies they are.

    • Someone out there who picks up my "Tweets" kindly forwards the relevant ones on to my lovely friend James Reilly [and also to ASH] but I have no reaction from those quarters yet.  Maybe they are rendered speechless by my logic?

    • National Geographic are very slow on the uptake?  I thought Third Hand Smoke had been around for many years?  It's worth reading though as it proves several of my points above.

Through that site I found the TRDRP site which is where NG got it's startling article.  Apparently [by their logic] any house older than a few days is a death trap if a smoker has ever entered it.  They also suggest that it gives greater incentive to quit, but why fucking bother if my house is going to go on killing me for the next thirty years?

P.S.  Thanks for that tip – I'll give it a try.

  8. Don’t forget, also, Gramps, that according to one of the anti-smoking ads plastered all over the TV in recent years, it’s also almost totally (90%, I think, was the given amount) invisible and odourless, and that many of the those “deadly 4000” chemicals are only there theoretically, because the quantities are so tiny that there isn’t a measurement minute enough to quantify them.  Which, in effect, is tantamount to saying that, even though most of it can’t actually be proven to exist at all, it’s still deadly enough to kill the cheeeldren at ten paces!

  9. Granddad, secondhand tobacco smoke is EVIL and was made by SATAN to DESTROY us!

Secondhand Marijuana smoke however is HOLY and was made by GOD to SAVE us!

Didn't they ever teach you that stuff in Skoole?

    • My education was sadly lacking.  They only taught me whatever they wanted me to know which was precious little.
