Feeling the humility
You may wonder where I was yesterday.
No? I thought not.
I was actually in the garden. Herself was baking in bed and decided it was batter to bake in the sunshine. We tried that the day before but that didn’t last long as it was really fucking hot. The terrace out the back is a fierce suntrap and there was no air movement anyway.
So we went through the routine of strapping Herself to her Wheelie [as she calls it] and I then steer her through to the main doors and out onto the platform [which I re-erected the day before]. At this point there is a sharp turn onto the fun part – the ramp. Here gravity takes over, I let go and Herself goes screeching downhill to the terrace. I don’t know what she’s worried about as even if she forgets the turn at the bottom, there’s a grand patch of grass beyond the nettles which would make a grand soft landing [provided of course she misses the granite pillar].
I should have mentioned a few days back that I had removed the platform and ramp as the weather was crap since March. This ensured that we would have a heatwave and sure enough we did [and do]. You have me to thank for the high temperatures and sunshine.
You’re welcome.
Anyhows, sitting out there on a deckchair on the terrace I got thinking of holidays again. One type of holiday I would abhor is one where I just lie on a beach all day. I just cannot see the attraction. If I go somewhere I want to see the place. Maybe go for a drive somewhere interesting or just stroll around villages poking my nose into the occasional shop of coffee shop. If I do have a quiet day I like to maybe sit in the sun, but I must have something to look at, such as hot air balloons drifting past or dolphins playing with a motorised yacht. Reading is fine but I’m easily distracted and would like a view to look at. Lying on a crowded beach is my idea of hell.
Yesterday on the terrace was a bit better. There was a thin layer of very high cloud so the sun wasn’t too hot and we could stay out a bit longer, watching the birds from outside instead of inside. I also took an odd glance at FlightRadar360 FlightRadar24 when a plane passed over. One for example was from Lanzarote to Dublin. I thought of all those poor saps up there on their way home. They are doubtless all broke after blowing everything on the first trip since the Virus. They have already suffered all the security stuff at departure and had yet to face the chaos of Dublin Airport. They’ll be very lucky if they ever see their luggage again and may spend weeks just wandering around Left Luggage along with all the other crowds. Having taken out a new Credit Union loan just to pay the car parking fees they get home with the lovely thought that they are back in the office the following day. God love ’em.
The only problem yesterday was the humility [as Mary down the way calls it].
It was fierce sticky.
Sometimes the humility is so sticky that it’s like standing beside the emerging heater.
FlightRadar360? What’s that? Nothing coming up on my internet searches
Damn! Sorry. Of course I meant FlightRadar24. I’m getting old…..
Thank you Grandad. That’s a very interesting site. I foresee hours of fun with it.
It’s very useful when collecting people from airports, but only works if aircraft transponders are turned on. It should probably be more accurately called Flight Radio Location, radar would pick up those that did not wish to advertise their presence-
It’s a bit of craic though tracking the craft overhead. The Air-Sea Rescue helicopter overflies here a lot. Half the time they have their transponder on and I can track the rescue. There’s also a flying school on the coast who gives a lot of lessons!
