Technoconfusion
Us old folk like routine.
New shit can be bloody confusing but sadly it’s a fact of life.
First thing this morning I discovered there had been a whole series of upgrades to all my websites. Luckily I have a yoke that upgrades them all with just a couple of clicks. I’ll let the owners of said sites work out any changes.
Then the door bell clamoured.
I had been expecting this as I had been on to Sky who provide our satellite service. I was concerned that we were paying rather a lot for the service and wanted to reduce things somewhat. I discovered that by combining a few things I could get more while paying for less. It did involve a call from one of their “engineers”, hence the visitor at the door.
He was foreign. Not only was he foreign but his command of my native language was almost non-existent. He kept asking me questions and I couldn’t understand a fucking thing he was saying. He did his stuff and fucked off leaving a clatter of cardboard boxes littering the place.
Then the next problem started. How to I operate my television. It took a lot of experimenting but I’m sort of getting there. Unfortunately Herself wasn’t so pleased with the new remote control and demanded to use the old one. I gently explained that that wasn’t possible now. That didn’t go down well!
The new system can be voice controlled.
I discovered that doesn’t work too well if you only have half a mouth…..
“The new system can be voice controlled”
Does it understand swearing – Particularly of the Irish variety? I don’t suppose the developers know what “Feck” means…
With only three keys of separation, this is an easy mistake to make.
I tried but it just said it didn’t understand. It must have live a sheltered life?
