Progress
I went to see Doc on Tuesday.
The thing I was worried about was a rather disgusting looking growth that had started to grow out of a nostril. Naturally I had visions of x-rays and Chemotherapy and shit like that but Doc, who was concerned, reckoned I was safe from all that. Anyways I now have a letter of introduction and am to report to hospital for a nasty sounding procedure to clear out the unwanted stuff. That is to be arranged imminently.
The next trick is the dog-swap. Penny is due for her monthly visit this week and the decision has been made. I shall be coming home alone. It’s hard but really she doesn’t know us any more and is spending her days either sleeping or occasionally going for a stroll around the room which consists of endless circling with a bewildered look in her eyes until she falls down. She falls a hell of a lot as the muscles in her hind legs are now all but useless.
I started the paragraph above with the mention of a dog-swap. The story there is simple. We had a discussion about getting another dog and both agreed that the house would be empty without a canine companion. We also agreed that a good idea was to get a new dog as quickly as possible to take our minds off Penny’s departure and to add some distracting joy to the house.
On Monday I started looking around the various sites which have dogs for adoption. It’s so sad that there are so many of them. Anyhows I came across one dog that looked beautiful, and her description was just what we wanted There was a form thing underneath so I filled it in just to see what would happen. Later the home tried to phone me but somehow I missed the call. I tried phoning them back but there we just an answering machine. Eventually that evening I get a call from them. We had long chats and I explained the situation with Penny and they agreed that I could call in a day or two to meet my choice dog. If we met and didn’t tear each others’ throats out the the dog would be ours whenever we wanted to collect her. Actually it’s a lot more complicated than that but that’s the gist. I’m hoping to head over today to meet the dog. I’m looking forward to that.
I also got our sewer unblocked. Nasty smelly job, but intensely satisfying when a flush no longer caused the water in the pan to rise almost to the brim.
Things are looking brighter.
Apart from Penny.
Sorry Grandad. It seems that the right thing to do is never an easy thing to do.
Sound’s like they will essentially burn off the growth in your nose. Try getting hold of some colonial silver gel to treat it with afterwards. You are doing the right thing with Penny & have a virtual hug. It’s grand that you looked for a rescue first & for most. We had considered getting a Ridgeback puppy from a breeder & then decided that too many idiots would have got them during lockdown & had no idea what they were getting themselves into. So we registered to adopt that particular breed (there in only two in the UK) & were successful. We adopted him at 11 months old & he had been abandoned by what he thought was his family when he was around 6 months old. We now have a great Ridgeback who is incredibly friendly & 110Ib in weight. Best of luck with the new hound.
The nose saga continues and I have no idea what’s going to happen there, apart froma promise from the hospital to make an appointment.
As I have written to day [the next post here] I cannot bring myself to phone the vet. I have spent the last few days torturing myself and have decided. I’m a soft hearted old bugger…
