A resumption of hostilities — 5 Comments

  1. Although it can often be mildly amusing to observe the playground political intrigues in the old colonies, the current state of play in the USA is not a very good advert from what should be a leading example of democracy.
When their ‘system’ sets out to prevent any qualified citizen from standing for election as its president, it starts to look more and more like any other banana republic. OK, the system may not like Trump, the media may not like Trump, the other major party may not like Trump, but surely it’s up to the electors to decide who they prefer to have as their president.
I hold no brief to defend Trump, but it seems there may be some substance in his view that all the forces of the ‘system’ are being coordinated to limit his chances of regaining office. If that is the case, then you can understand why he and his supporters feel compelled to demonstrate their views by whatever channels are open to them.

    • I could not agree more. I am not a particular fan of Trump but the whole basis of democracy is that it is up to the people to vote for whoever they want. In a free democracy there is always the possibility of electing someone who is totally unsuitable for the job but that is the people’s choice. It’s not up to the incumbent crowd to decide who should or should not stand as a candidate.

  2. I am in the anybody but Sleepy Joe camp. The man is a complete train wreck. You could almost hear the moans and groans of his staffers when he made the statement (in Boston no less) that “I may be Irish but I’m not stupid”. Well Joe, that remark shows that apparently yes…yes you are that stupid.

    • Heh! When he was over here he made a couple of brilliant gaffs in his speeches. Unfortunately I can’t remember what they were. Watching him, I always get the impression that he hasn’t a clue where he is or what he’s supposed to be doing.
