I came across an article yesterday and was a bit suspicious that it might be an April Fools prank.

However it has been widely reported in the mainstream meeja so I am assuming it is in fact true.

Cigarette company working on vaccine to stub out coronavirus.

Now this is not surprising. Various reports in the past have indicated that smoking may have a small protective effect against the virus. Nicotine does have many beneficial aspects so it would be no surprise if it did have protective properties. Naturally this is not being widely reported and ASH and their anti-smoker pals continue to imply that smoking is a major danger.

What happens though if BAT successfully produces a vaccine? Here is something the whole planet is waiting for and it finally goes into mass production. What are the anti-smokers going to say? For years they have demanded that governments have nothing whatsoever to do with Big Tobacco. They would rather the Greeks should die before accepting ventilators from Big Tobacco

So are they going to demand that the vaccine be withheld from the world’s population on the grounds that it’s better for millions to die rather than to accept something produced by their arch enemies? Or are they going to have to admit that Big Tobacco isn’t all that bad and row back on all their precious principles?

I wouldn’t want to be working in their PR departments!
