More blog awards
I had forgotten about the Blog Awards.
I had been getting the occasional mail into my spam reminding me to enter, and they then started getting panicky and extending the deadline which meant more mail.
They published their Long List today and essentially it’s just a long list of sites I have never heard of. I spotted only one name that I recognised but then I didn’t read the whole list. Life is too short.
This humble site won the Best Personal thing ten years ago. I still have the trophy. It’s a cut crystal glass yoke, but someone knocked it off it’s perch a while back and it’s hastily glued back together. I can’t bring myself to bin it though.
It’s years since I last entered. The whole circus changed some years ago and became very organised and business like. It also became very pink and fluffy. It’s not a place where I would feel comfortable. Or maybe I just grew out of it?
I feel a bit like a member of a small group sitting cosily around the fire while all the young people have carried their own party into the back garden with their loud music and incessant chatter about fashion, lifestyle and beauty.
I prefer the comfort of a cosy chat.
Competition rots your brain anyway. Best to leave it to the young-ish set who actually care about such things. Mind if I join you about the fire?
Sure didn’t you join me at the fireside many years ago?!
Yes, I did. But I left to get another beer and got lost in the process. I never found the beer and I’m still lost.
It looks like awards for people who never understood what a blog was about in the first place!
Indeed. Those awards finished years ago. Now they all seem to be either trying to sell something, or hope to be “influencers” [whatever that is].
An”influencer” is a millennial who is liked by snowflakes – a sort of mutual admiration society.
Can I have a place at the fire, too?
Just look around. Aren’t all the regulars here.
Happy days!
