Pins and needles
There is wild excitement here at the Manor.
I had two phone calls yesterday. One making a hospital appointment and the other to confirm it. Isn’t that fantastic?
Okay. Enough of the sarcasm. Yes, I now have an appointment for surgery next week. Fortunately it doesn’t clash with any of my other multitudinous appointments.
This one is to drill a couple of holes through the roof of my mouth up into the hole that used to contain a nose. At least, that;s my understanding of it as I garner most of my information listening to the surgeons chatting to each other. They presumably assume I’m either too thick or too scared to hear the unvarnished truth? And having drilled these holes they will insert two steel pins whose primary purpose is to anchor my new nose.
There is good news and bad news here.
The good news is that I am to have a general anesthetic. This is good because I don’t particularly want to be around while they do their drilling. It sounds noisy, messy and painful.
The bad news is that I am to have a general anesthetic. This means I can’t drive home after [it’s an out patient thingy] so there is no point in bringing the car at all. Now the hospital involved [St James’s] is in a very tricky part of Dublin. It’s a pain to get to which is presumably why it’s also the chosen location of our new 2.3 Billion Children’s’ Hospital. There is no way I can reach it using public transport without multitudinous changes of bus and/or tram routes.
Poor Daughter has been roped in again.
It means she’ll have to drop me over and presumably go home again as I won’t be released for another few hours at which point she’ll have to drive all the way back again.
She’s a good kid.
I might even leave her something in my will.
I’d put money on her rather wanting to have you around for a long time yet (as do we all). You’ve already given her plenty in her genes (as we’ve all seen in the last year). Good luck with this next op, and take your time choosing the replacement schnozz!
A very good idea to leave her a little something. If you want her to remember you, leave her as responsible for the large balance on your multiple credit cards. She will remember you every month, guaranteed.
