Rolling news
Today is a quiet day.
Well, it’s quiet if you ignore the power roller chundering up and down the lane [going beep beep every time it reverses back down], and the rattling of crockery on the shelves and the vibrations in my teeth. They seem to be finishing off laying the road foundations which is fast work [on day 14 of a 5 to 10 day job] and there is talk of the final surface being laid on Monday. That’s excellent timing as I have an oil delivery booked for Monday and the stupid insane idea that they might be finished by then. I’ll let the oil bloke and the road mob sort it out between themselves.
I went down to the village yesterday. I ordered a coffee and the young lad brought it out front while I was chatting to the owner. I discovered he had put it on the outdoor “no smoking” table. I don’t know what that’s about as it’s outdoors and only applies to one table. Weird. Anyway I pointed this out to the lad and he promptly removed the “no smoking” sign. Now that’s what I call excellent service.
I got home and Herself was on the phone to her sister, chatting away to beat the band. Obviously Sis-in-Law asked after me…..
“Ah he’s grand” says Herself. “He went into town the other day and saw a lovely pair of shoes in Arnott’s window so he got them and a few other things too.”
“That’s nice. When was this?” asked Sis-in-Law.
“Last Thursday evening” says Herself.
Sis-in-Law nearly choked.
Herself has a weird sense of humour.
So did you get the 100% discount on the shoes?
As for the road work, they meant five to ten working days.
100% discount and cash-back.
I meant working days too. Today is their 18th day out there.
“There is talk of the final surface being laid on Monday”
Ah, but which Monday?
Sadly, you might have a point there.
