Could this be the death of poor old Rambles?
Something is wrong. Yesterday I discovered that two years of posts had disappeared. I fixed that by restoring a backup.
Today I discovered that the last two posts had gone. Once again I had to restore the database.
So there is a problem. I don’t know what it is. Is it the software? Is it the database? Is it the server? I honestly haven’t a clue.
I have run a couple of scans. One scan completed showing no problems. Another scan is a severe one which does a deep scan comparing files with their originals and sniffing out anything suspicious. That came up with one warning that will need a little attention but I’m confident that it’s not a problem.
So… it’s not a virus or any malware. Everything is apparently fine and running normally. The firewall is in place and is successfully blocking nasties. But posts are starting to disappear. Why? How? If I can’t find an answer then there isn’t much point in adding new stuff if it’s only going to disappear again?
I’ll wait for a couple of days to see what happens.

Has one of your posts upset someone? Such problems could be a cyber attack.
I’m getting a lot of traffic from China over the last few days [15 to 20% of all traffic] but that has happened before. The firewall is staving off critical events and there is no report of a breach/login.
I did find a strange problem – the .htaccess file had changed at some point, but there was nothing malicious in it. I restored it with an old backup and am doing another scan.
Ah! Deep scan completed. No issues at all. I’m baffled.
It’s probably due to the “Extreme Heatwave” we’re suffering from…
