  1. I do enjoy your chats about life in your neck of the woods, and your gentle ribbing of your political masters, but some may think that there are few laughs or chuckles in the current middle East situation. The reports that 33,000 Palestinians have been killed come from who (or is it whom?)? You can’t trust the figures from Hamas, or even the UN which, apparently, has been implicated in taking part in the October 7 atrocity. That Palestinians have been killed is not in doubt, but whose fault is it, and who is ultimately responsible? Hamas must be the only current regime with policies designed to kill as many of it’s own people as possible.

    • I absolutely agree that the situation in Israel is no trivial matter and I wouldn’t make light of it. The tension is approaching the levels of the Cuban Missile Crisis [which I remember very well]. I am also aware that the first casualty of any war is truth. I take reports from both sides in the conflict with a great deal of cynicism.

I should point out that I have trouble with spelling Netanyahu so I do confess to trivialising his name,

I got the 33.000 figure from the BBC site and am well aware [as everyone keeps pointing out ] that the figures are from Hamas, but looking at the scale of destruction it’s obvious that there have been very significant casualties.

  3. Well said Grandad. Israel is well out of order on this occasion, as I have said on my own blog. The whole point is that Israel is a state, and they have laws to comply with. (both national and international). If they don’t follow the law, then they descend to level of the terrorists. When they do that, they recruit more terrorists to oppose them that they get rid of (just look at Northern Ireland for references). It is a mess and a nightmare, but Israel are only prolonging the conflict and raising international threat levels.

    • The big mistake they are making is that they think they can eradicate Hamas by killing them all in Gaza. While Hamas may be a distinct group, they are part of a much greater ideology, and you cannot eradicate an ideology with bombs and bullets. They should have realised this when attacks from Hezbollah increased. Even worse, Iran is a major part of the same ideology so poking that little wasp’s nest is not a very good tactic. I would not like to be living in that region right now.
