Far seeing hobbies
I wasn’t going to scribble anything today.
Instead I thought I would have a bit of messing around with my newfound hobby.
A few weeks ago I came into possession of a nice little idea – making stuff out of plywood. This may not seem much but given a kit, it’s possible to make a whole load of stuff, from clocks to train/tram sets. My first attempt was a marble-run which works brilliantly, sending steel balls shooting up stairways and down various slides and spirals.
To cut a short story even shorter, I bought another. This one is a telescope which hopefully will stand on its own tripod. It is decorative, though in fact the telescope works very well. Yes – this kit does contain some non-plywood parts such as lenses, which aren’t made of plywood as then they wouldn’t work.
A work in progress
This job is quite repetitive but so detailed that the repetition isn’t quite so tedious. After all, it contains several cylinders which are three dimensional and therefore difficult to make out of wood unless you steam it and bend it, but that would be cheating. Instructions are very detailed and have to be followed to the letter. I ignored one simple instruction and had to disassemble back a few steps. That’s me taught.
The problem now is that sitting at a table and working on incredibly tiny parts means a lot of leaning forward which is a strain on the old back. God but I’m getting old.
So now I have returned to my cozy armchair which is a grand spot for relaxing aching spines.
Now I can’t think of anything to write.
