It’s a date
Wonders will never cease!
I mentioned on Monday that companies had developed a nice system to promising service “sometime this year [or next]”.
In a moment of idleness I thought I would give the energy efficiency mob a call just to see if they still had my name on their list, not having heard from them for some months. I didn’t expect anything in particular, it’s just that I felt like a bit of mischief.
A very charming woman answered the phone. I gave her my project number and asked if I was still on their lists. She confirmed that I actually was on their lists and not only that but apparently I had been allocated a contractor. Wow! I have a contractor! She gave me their phone number. The company are based in Cork, presumably because they couldn’t find a contractor on the east coast.
I phoned the contractor to see if they had ever heard of me. “Yes.” says she, “No problem. I have all your details here. What can I do for you?”. I asked if there was any chance the work on The Manor would be done this year. She said they were waiting for a surveyor’s report. I told her that I had already had one bloke who assured me I was entitled to the work and that I had then had another visit from a bloke who surveyed the house. “Ah no” says she “That was their surveyor. I haven’t heard back yet from our surveyors.”
*sigh*
I told her that I hadn’t had any further visitations. “Okay.” says she. I’ll put you down for a survey. You should hear from them in a few week’s time”.
Remember now – this was Monday afternoon, less than 48 hours ago.
At eleven this morning my mobile rang. A bloke said he wanted to measure me up and could he call at half past eleven. I told him he could.
At eleven thirty on the dot the front door ball rang. There were two chappies there – a senior with a measuring tape and a junior with a notebook. The pair of them did a whirlwind tour of the gaff, measuring all my windows both inside and out. They nearly gave Herself a heart attack when they shot into her room [maybe I should have warned her?]. They left with the cheerful assurance that they had everything they needed and the work was ready to start. I asked when.
Sometime in March or April.
*Another sigh*
Maybe they’ll turn up tomorrow?
Did they mention which year?
Our place is in a ‘Conservation Area’, which means that most external building issues must go through some extra sort of scrutiny to retain the general aspect of the location.
I wanted to replace the night storage rads with more energy-efficient units, and was told that it wasn’t possible because of the CA status!
It’s fairly normal to assume that radiators are installed inside the house, and have no bearing on the view from the outside, but the limited mentality of councils in this regard cannot comprehend such technology!
