A vast improvement?
Yesterday, James posted a comment in my little rant about my windows.
If you are feeling really daring, do a side-by-side comparison of the two and post them on the web.
Caption to read, one is original to the house, the other is paid for by the Irish Government in the name of energy efficiency. Guess which one is which.
Always one to rise to the challenge, here goes –
One is original to the house, the other is paid for by the Irish Government in the name of energy efficiency. Guess which one is which.
I would ask you to examine the workmanship [workpersonship?]. Note the attention to detail, in particular around the reveals [that bit between the window frame and the front wall].
Magnificent work?
A job well done?
“paid for by the Irish Government”? No, paid for by Irish taxpayers: you in turn will contribute to other people’s new windows. Some of the money will have come from foreign companies’ corporate tax but that now cannot be spent on other things.
You are correct. Probably should have read: Paid for with your tax dollars at the discretion of the Irish Government.
(Remember I’m in the USA) $$$
Where’s the ledge gone? No flat for the window box to sit on now.
What an ugly replacement, installed by seemingly blind people, unaware of the mastic which needed smoothing before it hardened.
0/10 for quality – typical government stooge job.
Fast job.
Get in. Bodge it & get on to the next one.
I’ve never understood why replacement windows have to be put in nearly flush with the outside of the wall. The shadow effect of your old window creates a pleasing view whenever the light shines, and this is now lost with the manner by which your new windows have been installed!
I assume the wall is a single skin stone/old-brick structure, so hopefully, the mastic has been applied at a generous rate from the interior to the outside, and is well pointed!
Sorry to say, but much of the character of your wall is now compromised!
