It’s the hypocrisy that amuses me. We [we? me?] shout about censorship in Russia yet are led to believe it doesn’t exist here?

As for Google, I use their search engine but everything else is independent. I have a gmail address but very rarely use it. I’m not even worried about Analytics as I use self hosted Matomo. As for ads – tried them once upon a time and it took about eighteen months to reach the $100 minimum payment.

  1. Hi Irish Grandpa, and all of you who may read this:

When you write “Are we seriously supposed to believe that the Russians are raping and pillaging across the landscape while the Ukrainians are all squeaky clean with copies of the Geneva Convention in their back pockets? I very much doubt that. The truth, as always lies somewhere in between.”

Here you are missing an important point. The “Special operation”, “war” or “attack” or “invasion” is taking place in Ukrainian territory. There is NO way that the Ukrainian population or soldiers are raping Russian women or shooting Russian children or bombing Russian nurseries or killing Russian civilians (accusing them of being “nazis” without trial). It is physically impossible. There is no point of comparison.

So the truth is possibly NOT “somewhere in between”, but much closer to the official version of the West (in which, however, I don’t dare to trust blindly). By stating that ‘the truth is somewhere in between’ we risk banalizing the crimes of the Russian soldiers against helpless civilians. Because the simple fact that there cannot be any crimes by Ukranian soldiers against helpless Russian civilians.

Certainly, some Ukrainian killed Russian soldiers. But, please, are we seriously supposed to believe that one can go to war and not get hurt? Or that one would not find ANY resistance in the country one is invading?

Having said that, I don’t believe that all Ukrainians in the world are saints or angels and that there are no criminals. But this is a complete different story, we are talking about a a completely different liga.

    • Welcome Juan Maria! I stand by my “somewhere in between” stance. I’m just saying that we don’t hear the full truth for either side and while the Russians apparently have a lot of war crimes to answer for, I’m sure that the Ukrainians have committed a few themselves. To be honest, if my country was invaded I don’t think I would worry too much about the Geneva Convention either.

  2. duckduckgo is not perfect but it provides a much wider range of results & opinions than google search.

  3. I read recently

Would posting that get me to the Gulag ? On time?

    • That is a very interesting read. I certainly shows that the Ukrainians aren’t quite as pure as the driven snow?
