For the sake of appearances
I caught sight of myself in a mirror today.
It gave me quite a turn.
This isn’t exactly a house of mirrors as Herself tends to use a hand mirror so there isn’t a need for one on the walls. She is fussy about her appearance whereas I couldn’t give a shite about mine.
I used to get my hair cut a couple of times a year when a local lad came up to tend to Herself. My concern was one of practicality rather than vanity as my fringe growing down in front of my eyes really annoyed me. So my instruction to Local Lad was always the same – cut the fringe and do what you like with the rest.
Somehow during the Pandanic Local Lad went to ground, so I just let the hair grow. Herself started complaining that I looked a bit wild and that I wasn’t to go down to the village for fear of scaring the kids. So I started pulling it back and tying it into a ponytail. The months passed and eventually the fringe grew long enough to reach the tie at the back. Great! No more hair in my eyes.
Herself likes it now. I have been given instructions not to cut it [not that I had any intentions in that direction anyway]. She has also expressed a preference for a long beard [though I had been thinking of hacking that] and so I’m to let that grow too. Instead of looking like Harold Shipman I now more resemble Chewbacca.
The hair has now outpaced the beard so I could plait it under my chin should I be strange enough to attempt that. Equally I could plait it into the beard which would be an interesting fashion statement. Just as well I’m not into fashion? Herself is quite jealous and she has decided she likes the look so much that she is going to follow my lead.
Talking of appearances, why are there so many blacks – sorry! People Of Colour – in advertisements? Is it now mandatory that we all have mixed race kids and POC adults? It would appear so as they constantly pop up as typical families these days?
Personally I find the poc (no caps sic) ads very racist. No east/west asians etc /sarc
As to your final point, it’s exactly the same in the UK – plus an over-representation of blatantly same-sex couplings too. I’ve no problem with folk of different skin-shades or those who adopt alternative sex-choices, but I do have a problem with unbalanced propaganda being forced down my throat
Our response to it should be simple – just avoid buying any goods or services which portray such unrealistic proportions of lifestyle types. The marketing analysts will soon give the message to their paymasters that, if they continue with such woke propaganda, their sales and profits will be toilet-bound and they’ll be heading for insolvency. You’ll be amazed how quickly they’ll change tack and dump all the wokeness drivel.

It’s not so much propaganda as an overload of political correctness. It’s all about that notion of inclusiveness which is a word that pisses me off [amongst many of the modern “buzzwords”].
