Turning black into white
Herself and I got letters this morning.
This was slightly disturbing as both letters looked identical apart from the names and both were from Revenue.
Bugger! I hate letters from Revenue as they rarely [i.e. never] tell me that they owe me something and usually mean they are taking something away. Maybe they has discovered some of my past “creative accounting” and were going to bill me for €10 arrears plus €5,000 penalties and €10,000 interest?
I opened mine first with some trepidation. This was not going to be pretty.
It was my “Covid Certificate”.
What the fuck? Why was this coming from Revenue? It had a lot of information on it which made no sense whatsoever apart from my name and date of birth. Most of the space was taken up by a large version of one of those QR code thingies. It looked like a large stamp designed by someone on a massive dose of Mescaline. It’s the biggest code I have seen yet. I am totally baffled.
Herself’s was identical to mine. It means we have now crossed the boundaries in our two-tier society and are now members of The Elite. We can now fuck off on our holidays abroad if we so wish and can even enter a pub [if and when they open]. I can now sit inside a restaurant and smirk smugly at all the younger people who have to remain outside.
Apartheid is alive and well in Ireland.
And I have just joined the White Minority.
The QR code is mainly for airlines, coffee shops etc to use, but if you have a smart phone with the Covid app insalled you can use it to put the Certificate on to the phone. The cert and its letter do not tell you this and I only found out by accident.
Hah! So it does. I had forgotten about that yoke on my phone. I haven’t fired it up in months, and actually thought I had removed it.
I bet you the government departments squabbled about who would get the budget for sending out those letters – a turf war among the civil servants!
Transport could have had a claim as the card’s purpose is to allow air travel. Equally Foreign Affairs might have had a stake. But Revenue? Weird.
Revenue? Really? I guess it’s ID2020 at work?
