The filming is over.

Well, it’s over until it starts again next month.

I haven’t been out at all at all since last weekend as by all accounts there was little point. I heard stories of half hour delays just to get from one side of the village to the other. Anyway most of the shops were shut and there was no parking anywhere either.

Now we have to contend with the crowds. Disney are leaving all their decorations and modifications in place for next month’s filming so doubtless anyone with kids in the east of Ireland will be pouring into the village for “selfies”. I might venture down tomorrow to view the chaos but am somewhat apprehensive. I just don’t like crowds.

They do a lot of filming around here. It’s one of my little amusements when watching any film to see if I can spot any of the local landmarks. They must have made dozens [if not hundreds] of films and advertisements in the area. The earliest one I remember was “The Blue Max”. That one was great craic as I used to watch the biplanes and triplanes dog-fighting over the valley. Since then there have been a few that quietly passed me by without fuss [“Braveheart”? “The Tudors”? “Reign of Fire”?].

Anyhows I expect I’ll just have to put up with the gawkers for a while. Maybe I’ll send a few of ’em up to the bogs [tell ’em that’s where the Braveheart set is?]. With a bit of luck, they’ll remove all the filmy stuff when they’re finished with it and life will return to normal. There will be no point in people coming to see a set that isn’t there any more?

That’s what I’m looking forward to anyway.

I could do with a strong dose of normality.
