Pincer tactics
I am being attacked from both sides.
On one side I have the telephone. I keep getting calls on it from a 0012 number. According to Dr. Google that’s a fake prefix number so I just ignore it. I let it ring out, but it’s really fucking annoying.
Then on the other side I have Anna Raccoon. I’m referring to the web site obviously. For some reason people seem to be extra keen on getting a “guest slot” on the site and that too can be irritating. I get these requests for a few sites, but none so much as Anna’s Archive.
I had one recently –
I noticed you shared an article from En.Wikipedia.org on your post about mobile app development, here: https://annaraccoon.com/2012/06/04/beauty-in-numbers/
Having read the piece from En.Wikipedia.org, I think it's good - but we have recently published a more detailed article on how to optimize user engagement in your app that takes it up a notch. Here are a few of the topics that we cover:
How to understand what users need
Tips for your app store listing
How to make the onboarding process seamless
How to speed up your app
To ensure that our article is authoritative, we have quoted more than 20 objective sources.
Do I have your permission to send you the article to see if it’s worth linking to from your site?
-Rachel
Naturally I marked it as spam and binned it.
A couple of days later I got another mail –
I wanted to check in and see if you got my note about mobile app development?
Thanks,
-Rachel
This is a favourite tactic. Send a spam mail and then send a spam reminder. Really fucking irritating. I binned it.
A few days passed and I got another one –
Hey,
After emailing you, I realized this may not be your responsibility and you're focused on other stuff.
Who's the best person on your team to talk to about this?
Thanks in advance!
-Rachel
Christ on a bike but this one is persistent! She was really pissing me off at this stage. I binned it.
A few days on I got yet another one –
I'm sure you're busy, but if you could respond to my email below, I can cross this off my list.
Thanks,
-Rachel
Now even I have my limits. How far was this female prepared to go? I began to have visions of her camping out at my gate. I had had enough. I broke my own golden rule and sent a reply –
Rachel,
Yes, I am busy.
Apart from that I would point out a couple of things....
1. Surely after four unanswered mails you would have realised that you are on to a non-runner?
2. If you had done your homework you would have read that annaraccoon.com is an archived site, where the author is deceased and is therefore in no position to publish anything?
Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh but .......
I haven’t heard from her since.
Do you think she got the message?
UPDATE [some days later]…..
I received an apology. She is forgiven.
From the American-English spelling, this 'Rachel' is clearly most likely to be an American. Probably a Democrat.
At a very rough guess I would say Nashville??
More likely it came from an individual located in an old tenement building on the bad side of Moscow who was trained by a democrat from Nashville Tennessee named Rachel?
No. Straight from Nashville in good old Tennessee. It's amazing how easy it is to do research on the Interwebs.
