Diesel is bad for your health — 8 Comments

  1. Very Well done.

I cannot believe that it has taken until now for Nurse Righteous (overweight by any chance? ) to have a go.

I really anticipated that it would have happened immediately upon the first vape all those days ago.

At least she/it cannot threaten withholding knee surgery as it is already completed – no doubt adding to her/it's inner turmoil.

    • All the other staff were well aware that Herself was vaping and none turned a hair.

There used to be a reasonably nice smoking area in the place.  It was an outdoor terrace on the second floor beside the canteen restaurant.  The door to that area is now firmly bolted and the area is going to waste.

  2. Sounds like you had an encounter with "Nurse Ratched".

Nurse Ratched (also known as “Big Nurse”) is a fictional character and the main antagonist of Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”, as well as the 1975 film. A cold, heartless tyrant, Nurse Ratched has become the stereotype of the nurse as a battleaxe. She has also become a popular metaphor for the corrupting influence of power and authority in bureaucracies such as the mental institution in which the novel is set.

Here’s a snippet from OFOTCN with Ratched bullying/agitating a smoking patient … and this was pre-antismoking days:

The Nurse Ratched mentality is no longer confined to isolated cases within the medical establishment. There are now complete smoking bans – indoor and out – for hospital and for mental health facilities. Nurse Ratched has been institutionalized. A nasty, cruel, totalitarian streak has been allowed to flourish in the medical system – again. The entire administration has become cold, heartless, and tyrannical.

The main problem is Public Health from the WHO down. Nurse Ratched, the institution, has infected the medical establishment, academia, and government at all levels. Public Health has become the domain of the neurotic, the megalomaniacal, the greedy, the cranky, the sadistic.

    • Welcome O!

I confess it was a toss up as to whether I would call her 'Ratched' or 'Diesel' [from 'High Anxiety'].  Both share a lot of the same qualities!

  3. Care home worker suspended after injuring Hoole resident in tobacco row
    March 10

“A nurse who caused an injury to a “vulnerable” man at a care home in Chester after an argument over a tobacco allowance has been suspended.
Janet Kirk was suspended by the Nursing and Midwifery Council after a disciplinary panel heard she repeatedly refused to give a resident their daily ration of tobacco at Crawfords Walk Care Home in Hoole.
The panel heard he became “increasingly agitated” after being refused.

When the resident tried to enter the lounge in his pyjamas – which is against the care home’s policy that residents must be dressed before entering – Ms Kirk tried to block the way by closing two sets of doors. In doing so the resident’s wrist became trapped and he was cut.”</i>

“A disciplinary panel heard that the incident at Crawfords Walk Care Home in Hoole – which looks after dementia and mental health patients – unfolded after Janet Kirk repeatedly refused to hand over a resident’s daily ration of tobacco, without which he became ‘increasingly agitated’ throughout the day back in May 2015.”

“Another nurse who worked at the home said Ms Kirk was familiar with his daily regime and the impact that her withholding the tobacco would have had on him.”

“Ms Kirk asserts that she is remorseful for her actions but, in the panel’s judgement, her focus is primarily on the impact which these incidents have had on her,” it said.”

Since when has “misconduct” been a euphemism for torture?

“The imposition of a striking-off order was given ‘serious consideration’ during the hearing, but the panel ultimately decided that would be disproportionate”.

    • What astounded me was the over simplistic attitude of my "friend".  Just quit.  Just like that.  If it's that fucking easy then why are they pushing a those gums, patches and inhalers?  I would love to see how she would cope in a drug or alcohol ward!  A heroin addict would tell her precisely where she could stick her ideas.
