  1. You probably have to wait until the government sends you the new “Two and a Half Year” extension card although I agree with Ian. Retirement age is going up. They did it on my side of the pond so why not yours?

  2. In previous times, a birth premature by 30 months would have caused a lot of embarrassment at weddings and a fair bit of tut-tutting.
Among the chaste (note my spelling) it could even result in a virgin birth. — and we don’t want more of those.
Gossip #1.  I see Jessie’s youngest is getting married.
Gossip#2.   Well that is a surprise. I never even knew she was pregnant.

  3. Interesting that Ireland with its still-25%-ish smoking rate is seeing an increase in life expectancy whereas over here, with our < 20%-and-falling smoking rate we’ve just experienced our first drop in life expectancy for decades!  I note that that particular comparison isn’t mentioned in the article.  Strange that, eh?

    • Smoking and tobacco consumption have never been causes of death. Contributory factors maybe, but causes, never. Wait patiently, not only is lung cancer on the increase it is now hitting younger people, folks who not only have never smoked, but who, thanks to anti legislation have never been exposed to smoke. What will the explanations be I wonder? One thing is for certain, they won’t involve the motor car and they won’t mention the thousands of above ground nuclear tests that took place in the middle of the twentieth century. There is hope, remember what J T Barnham said, you can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can never fool all of the people all of the time.
The truth will out, eventually. Waiting for it is painful. I wish I could be around when the penny drops.
