In the pipe line
For a while now I have been contemplating my navel buying a new pipe.
I’m very happy with my day-to-day pipe that I smoke at the moment, but accidents can happen and spares are always handy.
The choice of where I go is already cast in stone, or briar should I say? Elie is the best damn pipe-maker I know of and I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
I mean to say – who wouldn’t be tempted to buy one of the Shire range?

I can just see myself puffing on that down in the pub and making ‘em all jealous?
Or maybe something a bit smaller?
Or even
I really fancy that last one, but it’s a tad outside my price range. Bugger!
I suppose I shall end up getting another similar to my present one.
It’s a nice very cool smoke with an ingenious cooling and filtering system built in, and it is also quite good at attracting sidelong and suspicious glances.
Anyhows I have written to Elie asking what’s on offer these days. He commutes between Belgium and France and is probably basking in the Dordogne at the moment. Lucky bastard. Leastwise I don’t expect a reply by return.
And in case anyone is wondering – this is not a sponsored post. He doesn’t even know I’m writing it.
I just believe in giving credit where credit is due.
You should change from Grandad to Gandalf. You're getting more like him every day. I would say the pipes look really pretentious but isn't pipe "smoking" that anyway?
More magical?
Pretentious my arse. A long [churchwarden] pipe is well known for giving a lovely cool smoke. You should try one sometime? Help you relax a bit?
tt – He's looking more like Gandalf every day as well?
Last time I smoked a pipe was when I was seven … I think – anyway, it was very much like this:

😉
Hah! That's lovely. It looks like a polished acorn with a reed stem?
Yup. Hollowed it out with my penknife and stuffed it with baccie from old dog-ends. Me and my old mate Peter were sick in the river later on …
And you kept a photograph all these years? Fair play!
Pipe smoking is an art form, and those pipes are sooo artistique. Michaelangelo and Rodin never sculpted like that.
When it comes to pipe design, Elie is a true artist. Not only do they look great , but they are a great smoke too.
I like the Shire #5. That's the one you should get.
It's a toss-up between #5 and #4. I think I'll treat myself. 😀
I vote for the Shire as well. That's a lovely pipe it is.
In the post, I hope. Or in the pipe-line?
Yah. In the post. Anything else is quite beyond me these days.
