Asteroid TU24 to impact and cause chaos tomorrow — 23 Comments

  1. Grandad,

I always feel one should apply logic to these situations. Which is furthest away from Dublin, the asteroid or your house? Well NASA say the asteroid,”should be observable that night by amateur astronomers with modest-sized telescopes”, whereas it is completely impossible to see your house with even the telescope at Dunsink. One can only conclude that it will pass nearer to the city than your house and might therefore cause further delays on the M50.

  2. 😆

You simply can’t beat good sound logic.

Though nothing could make the M50 worse [except the DTI?]

  3. I checked out the link you have to the conspiracy theorists and it’s called, “Lurking On The Grassy Knoll”. Well let me tell you, I have been to the Grassy Knoll. I have stood on both sides of the fence and I’ve been to the sixth floor of the Texas Schoolbook Depository building. I even once owned a 6.5mm Italian-made Mannlicher-Carcano bolt-action rifle with a 4 power Japanese-made telescopic sight.
Let me tell you this guy is a nut case.
On the other hand NASA is a government agency.
With all that in hand I’m going with the conspiracy theorists.
One last point. Are you completely sure that, “South America”, isn’t a code word for Tallaght?

  4. Brianf – Tallaght’s real name is Tallaghtfornia. That is because of the strange accent they speak there [a ‘Friends’/Thick Dublin hybrid]. Prepare to receive an asteroid up the arse……..

  5. After reading about your adventures with “tourists” and knowing that anything falling from space always takes out a major US city first, I’d like to make the suggestion that you are directly connected to any and all disasters that befall us over here. It’s an evil plot you’ve worked out with the aliens and Elvis. That’s why I come read every day, I know you’ll slip up and give away something. 😉

  6. Grandad,

I have just realized that NASA are using local time instead of UTC, it means it will hit at 8.33 UTC. That’s just after the 8.30 news headlines and too late to make the AA Roadwatch bulletin that goes out about then. Do you think NASA will notify the AA or should you phone them?

  7. S Mum – I will have nothing to do with Elvis…. And I never slip up. But keep reading anyway.

Ian – We won’t bother telling the AA. The motorists will be only too happy to be released from their misery.

  8. Greetings on your last day on earth.
First, the site is not called, “Lurking on the grassy knoll.”
    It’s called Grassy Knoll Institute.

Thanks for commenting on my site, this conspiracy theory is receiving some pretty good play.

Just remember, there is always about 10% truth to every theory.

  9. Greetings, LOTGK, and welcome.

Don’t blame me about the name of your site [I never mentioned it] – blame your fellow American. I doubt somehow that it’s my last day on earth. If it were to hit Ireland, I might agree, but the worst I can expect is catastrophic weather for a couple of centuries.

But then maybe it will only 10% hit?

  10. Asteroid me hole, it’s the mothership coming to take all of the scientologists away. Rejoice, The Cruiser will not be among us for much longer 🙂

  11. Just a good excuse for dropping a large bomb on some troublesome third world dictator and blaming it on the asteroid that wasn’t going to hit and bad tracking data. In the meantime I just hope it won’t interrupt my blogging.

  12. No one is to blame Grandad.
Does everyone have their “Bucket List” completed?

    Havin fun with this one….

  13. No I’m not. According to the conspiracy theorists, it was to hit this morning. According to NASA, it is to fly by tomorrow. Seeing as there is nothing in the news about South America being missing [though maybe no one has noticed yet?], we must assume that NASA are right…

  14. South America missing?

If it did disappear, the CIA would say it never existed in the first place, like England in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead”.

Guildenstern: What a shambles! We’re just not getting anywhere.
Rosencrantz: Not even England. I don’t believe in it anyway.
    Guildenstern: What?
    Rosencrantz: England.
Guildenstern: Just a conspiracy of cartographers, you mean?

  15. In the words of the immortal Maxwell Smart,
    “Missed it by this much!”

I was right about the Kennedy assassination however.

  16. It’s missed us two days running now, which shows it’s a conspiracy. Normally space is so big that asteroids only miss us once.
